A Conversation Piece
Ghent, Belgium | July 2021

Due to travel restrictions, I was unable to attend a residency I’d been offered at The Garage, a small exhibition space in Bristol.
The distance from the space inspired me to create a response work: a conversation between where I was and where I should have been. Choosing a location I felt was furthest from a white cube space and its associated connotations, I spent one week in a forest reflecting on the composition of physical and virtual space and how meaning is attached. Axis, angles, materials, limitations.
Phone conversations between the two sites became the foundation of the project and informed my research into the possible transposition of space and experience.

This project was facilitated by Caraboo Projects as part of their Artists Mentorship programme.
