passage

passage is an [ongoing] artistic research project, exploring the peripheries between the rural and the urban.
The project began as part of my Master’s thesis, where I investigated how rural cultures and environments have been shaped and transformed through processes of modernisation. The research drew on rural art history alongside a critical examination of colonisation, industrialisation, and capitalism.
To narrow my focus and situate myself within this research, I started following the river that runs through the city where I live, out into the countryside at either end. With much of my time spent in transit, I found myself in the in-between spaces – the thresholds between the rural and urban – questioning the invisible borders and where one ends and the other begins. The river gradually became a guiding thread: a way to think about relationality, ecology, and transformation, and to connect my earlier research with fieldwork experience. The project resulted in the creation of an artist publication combining photography and writing, designed as a guide for travelling through suburban landscapes. It was presented during a public event organised by Gluon at Tour à Plomb in Brussels and on a cycle tour and reading along the river.
